Here’s what you’ll be up to…

In this critical leadership role, you’ll take on the responsibilities of Council’s designated Local Emergency Management Officer (LEMO), leading Council's emergency management planning, coordination and resilience initiatives for the Penrith community.

You’ll:

  • Lead Council’s emergency management planning, ensuring compliance with legislation including NSW EMPLAN and the State Emergency and Rescue Management Act 1989
  • Coordinate Council's emergency services functions and act as Executive Officer to the Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC)
  • Partner with agencies such as the RFS, SES and other stakeholders to deliver risk-based planning, disaster preparedness and recovery outcomes
  • Manage Council’s Emergency Operations Centre readiness and support activations during emergency events
  • Drive community resilience programs, including bushfire and flood planning, education and engagement initiatives
  • Lead post-incident reviews and continuous improvement through lessons management frameworks
  • Seek opportunities for grant funding for disaster recovery

What are we looking for? 

We’re looking for a confident and capable professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-responsibility environment. You’ll bring:

  • Strong experience in emergency management, including planning, coordination and/or Emergency Operations Centre environments
  • The ability to lead and make decisions under pressure, particularly during emergency events
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across agencies, community groups and internal teams
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a passion for building community resilience
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in emergency management (or equivalent experience)

The must-know bits

You will be required to undertake employment checks, which may include a Criminal History Check, Qualification Check, Working with Children Check, Medical Declaration and/or a Functional Test, as relevant to the position for which you have applied.

Where a Criminal History Check is required and has returned a result that indicates disclosable court outcomes, you will be required to provide a copy of the report to Penrith City Council, for review, to progress through the recruitment process.
